Experience Overview
Otha Sonnie has over thirty years of experience in the photographic business.
He developed
his love for camera work at Saint Augustine’s College, while working as the
official campus photographer. He
also worked as a photojournalist for the local newspaper and as a staff photographer for a local
photographic studio. His
post college professional career began as an in-house photographer for an electronics
manufacturer in Norwood, Massachusetts, and continued at Polaroid Corporation of
Cambridge Massachusetts, where he worked as an image analyst in customer
service, Industrial Marketing Analyst and
Industrial Products Test Photographer, gaining experience working with Polaroid’s
wide range of large format films and industrial
cameras.
Otha's portraiture, still and special occasion photography
showcases people in posed and candid shots and dramatically highlights
commercial work by his unique use of light and shadow.
As well as portraiture, marketing production and special
occasion photography, Otha contributes regularly to the local community
newspaper's arts and events pages, accompanying articles written about local
exhibits and events. His work has been seen and published nationally.
Most recently, he has exhibited at the West Medford Open Studios, Arlington
Center for the Arts and Two Paws
Studio Exhibit.
He has a home studio in Medford, and has a joint
partnership in a studio called
"The Photographic Collaborative," where he and collaborative partner Al Hiltz
offer a range of photographic services and share the studio. Otha also teaches
Basic Digital Photography and Photographic Lighting classes for the
collaborative and various sponsoring agencies.
